Dr. Bharadwaj (pronuciation: bhaa-ruhd-vaaj)[1] is a scientist on the PreservationAux survey team. Later she creates a documentary series about the use of constructs within the Corporation Rim, including interviews with Murderbot about its experiences.
Biography[]
Book Series[]
Dr. Bharadwaj is a scientist on the PreservationAux survey team. Her tasks include gathering samples and analyzing their composition, and detecting the presence of alien remnants. She and Pin-Lee flirt in a way that suggests they've been doing so for a long time. She has family on Preservation (planet), and living quarters aboard Preservation Station.
All Systems Red starts with Bharadwaj and Volescu being attacked by an enormous local fauna. Bharadwaj is badly injured, and can only be stabilized after Murderbot's rescue and the survey team's collective efforts. She stays in the infirmary after this mission to recover, only able to leave after the others go on their away mission.
After Murderbot comes back damaged after the mission, and its broken governor module is exposed, Bharadwaj argues that Murderbot's earlier rescue is evidence that it's trustworthy.
Bharadwaj, Arada, and Volescu analyze the samples taken from one of the blanked-out sections on their maps. She later discovers that the blank zones weren't the result of an intentional hack, but rather than error caused by renmants of an ancient civilization that interfered with scans.
When the survey ends she returns to her home on Preservation Station. When Murderbot later discovers Mensah has been kidnapped, it finds a newsburst with an angry, vague statement from Bharadwaj, and uses her statement to piece together what happened in its absence.
Bharadwaj reaches out to Murderbot after Mensah's rescue to ask if Murderbot would be willing to let her tell its story in a documentary. It accepts, and throughout Network Effect, Murderbot remembers conversations with her that show glimpses of this process.
Bharadwaj makes a brief appearance in Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory, discussing bot and construct rights with Mensah. She mentions attending Station Medical's section for emotional support, encouraging Mensah to do the same.
Bharadwaj is mentioned in Fugitive Telemetry. Murderbot has begun interviews with her, and later she goes planetside to visit family.
TV Series[]
Professor Bharadwaj, a geochemist, is injured in a sandworm attack but is saved by Murderbot. She is seen hoarding soap in her quarters. In Episode 2, she is fully recovered and rejoins the groupâs activities, helping support the team's decision to explore the unsynced map area.
Bharadwaj is physically healing but remains emotionally affected by the prior sandworm attack. She declines Gurathinâs offer of behavioral modules intended to help with her trauma. Later, in episode 5, Bharadwaj attempts to save Murderbot by removing the Combat Override Module and rebooting it. She also supports Murderbot when its loyalty is questioned by others in the group.
Bharadwaj develops a closer connection with LeeBeeBee. She attempts to calm LeeBeeBee when she threatens the group at gunpoint but is unsuccessful in preventing the confrontation.
Personality[]
According to Murderbot, Bharadwaj is "easy to talk to, for a human." Murderbot talks to her several times for the purposes of her documentary, and each time Murderbot enjoys these conversations.
Physical Appearance[]
Bharadwaj is an unaugmented human, and she suffers from massive wounds in her right leg and side in All Systems Red. Outside of this, her appearances are not described.
The standard PreservationAux survey uniform is grey, and often includes a jacket.

The Murderbot Diaries has an illustration of an offscreen moment in Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory where Murderbot, realizing that Mensah has been accosted by an unwanted reporter, rushes to her rescue. Ratthi says afterwards, âSecUnit jumped over my head!â, and when Mensah left the group Arada's bare feet had been in Overse's lap. Arada, Bharadwaj, Gurathin, Murderbot, Overse, Pin-Lee, and Ratthi were all present in this scene.
